 | Finland Reviews | Tips 21 - 30 of 124 | | We have been visiting Lappeenranta since 1984 and have never been disappointed with the Hotel Lappee it belongs to the Sokos group who set and maintain excellent standards, the rooms are very comfortable well furnished and clean, the food in the restaurant is excellent the staff helpful and on arrival we asked if the room rate that they were offering was negotiable, after consultation the receptionist gave us a better rate. Lappenranta is a beautiful town set by the shores of Lake Saima in south eastern Finland close to the border with Russia, the town is a mix of old and new architecture, there is a shopping mall 'Kristina' with a good range of small shops and a supermarket 'Attila' where you can purchase almost any item you require while on holiday. Walking down hill through the town you come to the harbour where you may board one of a number of lake cruise boats although the larger ones could be described as ships these cruise up the lake some travelling up the Saimaa canal into Russia (visa required) the harbour has a floating restaurant the 'Princess Armada' there are also kiosks where snacks can be purchased, walking along the harbour past the marina you come to a small covered observation platform where you may sit and watch the many private luxury yachts and cruisers coming and going. Returning to the town walk up the hill to the fort area where you will find an old military complex consisting of museums craft shops and a beautiful small Orthodox Churh please enter the church and view the many icons inside. Many people think of Finland as being a cold climate country (in winter it is) this year July-2006 we experienced temperatures in excess of 30 deg C. A wonderful town, country and people you never feel threatened even in the bigger cities.
The Hotel Lappee include the use of Sauna and pool in with your room rate, there is a good retaurant, two bars - with agood selection of beers and spirits, I would definitely reccomend the 'Lapin Kulta' beer. Finland is a lovely country offering plenty of unpolluted natural areas and lakes The web-site with widest selection of cottages to rent in Finland: http://www.lomarengas.fi/en/www/index.html.stx Instead of spending you holiday at a country cottage you can stay at a farm holiday location. Lomarengas Ltd’s farm holiday locations give you plenty of choices. You can choose between B&B, full board and half board in country homes, or at working farms where animals are kept. There are also a few places conveniently close to summer events taking place in towns and cities.
Don't forget to rent car - all cottages are in the forest pretty far from transport terminals. http://www.avis.fi/avisonline/fi-gb/IBE.nsf/ReservationStep1?OpenForm&MST=913B5CC78093F820C125702300458988 And! bed-clothes and towels are not include in price - you should have that all with you. Cleaning cost some extra (about 75 EUR), but you can do that on your own. Leave a Comment

this is a brand new hotel in Helsinki, centrally located. The rooms are a little small, but they're very hip, as well as the bar and restaurant. I highly recommend staying here. This is the only low cost hotel chain in Finland with locations in Tampere, Ruka, Turku, and Vaasa. By 2008, there will be approximately 40 additional hotel locations around the country. In Helsinki 06/2006 according to their webpage! Possibility to have breakfast at the hotel or near-by hotel at 6 Euros/person (10/2005 info). Since all bookings are completely automated by computer, no additional staff is needed and the hotel can pass on the savings to the guests. As of April 2005, a room in Tampere accomodating up to 4 people is priced at a very reasonable 55 euro/night. As room prices tend to fluctuate, consult Omena's website for the most updated rates. Stayed in this Hotel in September 2005. I had a single studio room which had a microwave and a fridge. The 7a and 7b trams stop just a few minutes around the corner from the hotel. The 615 Airport bus also stops just around the corner (just ask for Helsinki Business College and the driver will put you off on the other side of the road) Just take a travel kettle with you as the hotel does not supply these. You can have breakfast in the hotel priced at 5.50 euros. I would stay here again and I hope to next year
Free evening sauna ( I would recommend this. Men and women do not sauna together). Nice views from rooms which start on the 4th floor. A nice park across the road. Cross over the road and it is sign posted and within a few minutes walk you are there.Website: www.ava.fi
