Useful links

by TarjaH

Links that I use to book a cottage/hotel room in Finland:
http://www.readytogo.fi/In_English.iw3

Cottages:
http://www.lomarengas.fi/cottages

Hotel chains have often direct offers:
http://www.sokoshotels.fi/en/
http://www.omenahotels.com/

Cottages has good facilities and we Finns prefer them especially when traveling outside bigger cities (Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Seinäoki, Vaasa).

So I really recommend them!

Scandic Simonkentta Hotel: Beautiful and functional

by gnomomami

Beautiful hotel right in the centre of Helsinki, a short walk from shopping, restaurant and train stration. Room of modern and kind design, new and clean bathroom. LCD television. Easy and fast access to the Kamppi station. The breakfast room is very crowded but with a view on the Kamppi place and the food is fresh and delicious.

Russel Guest House Eckerö: Budget accommodation

by hopang

Russel Guest House is a small guest house with less than ten rooms for budget travellers and golfers just for your overnight accommodation. The amenities are simple and basic with bathrooms at the corridor. Nevertheless the buffét breakfast is excellent, it has to be said. There is a golf clubhouse in front of the guest house complete with café cum restaurant and a sports shop mainly dealing in golf products and accessories. A golf driving range is located in front of the clubhouse for the convenience of golfers who need to polish up their golfing skills!

Golf driving range and clubhouse are located at its vicinity.

Many places around country: Rent a cottage,mökki!

by Turska

I´m fortuned, and I don´t need to rent a cottage,my family owns one.It surely has seen it´s best days, but I love it.I have spend my summers there all my life, first it was full of life, with cousins uncles ant aunts coming and going, and then it was only my parents and sisters.Today it´s only me and my husband using it.We live so far, that we haven´t been painting and so on on our visits. And we don´t know,if my fathers brothers and sisters will want to sell it some day-hope not!But that´s why it hasn´t been renovated.
My ideal Finnish summer is cottage, lake and sauna.I suggest that all of you who can, would rent a cottage, and enjoy a real Finnish summer by the lake.Rowing the boat, fishing maybe and swimming and sauna. It´s the best in Finland!

You can have very well occupied villa,or cottage without electrisity(like our is-I would not want any TV or such there!).It´s your choise. Some are at islands, some are only by the lake. Some aren´t even close to lake-I don´t think it is "real mökki"then, but it´s your choise.
Some cottages are by the sea.Very popular place is also "Ahvenanmaa".For some reason.in VT it´s called with it´s swedish name"Åland".
This price down here can´t been told-it´s debends so much on what you choose.I saw add saying"starting from 300e a week"

Euro Hostel: Euro Great

by ellierae

This is the first time that I have stayed here at the Euro Hostel.
I paid the 10 Euro deposit for the fridge key which you get back on the day you check out.
It is in a nice part of Helsinki and I enjoyed my stay there that much that I have booked for September.
The number 4 tram stops just around the corner from here and it is only a few minutes walk to the Market Square.

Stayed here again in September for 6 nights. I would book again.

Free morning Sauna is included in the price.

Lean-to and Lapp-tent shelters: Free accommodation outdoors

by Vesanto

Finland is full of lean-to's and Lapp-tent shelters. (Never heard of... see more information e.g. http://www.pohjois-savo.fi/fi/psl/hanketoiminta/projektit/reitistohanke/Englanniksi/Trailmaps_Instructions.php)

These shelters are mostly free, mostly with firewood (but take our own matches!), and mostly suited for staying overnight if you have your camping mattress and sleeping bag with you. Usually the information is hidden behind hiking routes or nature paths. If you know which town you are going to visit check the town's or areas web pages for routes.

Many tourism companies, harbours and excursion harbours, etc. also have lean-to's and Lapp-tent type shelters.

Check. e.g.

www.outdoors.fi - information about the nature parks etc. in Finland (with plenty of lean-tos, but not usually near towns)

www.pohjois-savo.fi/trailmaps (open the map in English and choose "Resting places").

www.infokartta.fi/kainuu - choose lean-to shelters and Lapp-tent shelters; Kainuu is a huge area with plenty of possibilities for outdoors enthusiasts.

academia hostel: Best hostel in helsinki

by lvgirl

I spent a week at the Academia over a five week trip in Europe. Not only was it one of the best hostels I've ever been to, but the free sauna and pool in the morning are to die for! It is also within walking distance of all trolley stops and close to downtown. (We walked to the esplande every day for coffee and breakfast.) If you stay in the more modern section of the hostel it is better than any hotel. Private bath, kitchen, so very clean and close to everything!

Särkisaarentie cottage: Acn between Tampere and Turku

by swetluska

This cottage was completely furnished (LCD TV included :D), with sauna as well. It is located at the lake, so after sauna you can jump into the lake.
The price was 60 EUR/night (without end cleaning and bed linen, which we did not take), there can easily sleep 5 people.

Cabins of Wild North: Accomodation in Finlands nature

by gubbi1

Did you ever dreamed of staying away from every stress and hectic of daily life? Maybe 'Villi Pohjola' (Wild North in English) has something for you. The 'Wild North' belongs to the the Finnish national forestry organization, which takes care of the forestry, the National parks and forest cabins. It is possible to rent cabins of different kind (some with more comfort than others) in partly remote areas. Many of these have a sauna (it can be a smoke sauna or a normal one) and other nice features like rowing boats.
Here is a pdf-map showing the different locations of cabins.

Just have a look on the many different cabins in Villi Pohjolas web presence.

The perfect gettaway of daily stress and hectic...
