Kekkolan Kartano (Kekkola Manor House): Hidden Gem of a Manor House near Mikkeli

Kekkola Manor House is situated a mere 10-minute drive from the centre of Mikkeli and is definitely worth a visit. Taking the turning from the main road transports you to "old" Finland - the driveway to the manor house is picturesque, driving past the owners' horses in the paddocks and finally getting a glimpse of the beautiful yellow building itself. We stayed with a big group of friends and everything about our visit was magical and made absolutely perfect by the attentive staff. Prices are slightly higher than in town but if you are after a perfect, relaxing getaway - Kekkola is it! The Manor house sleeps roughly 40 people - all the rooms have different quiant themes and are extremely comfortable and pretty. Some rooms have ensuite bathrooms, others share bathrooms along the corridor but please do not be put off by this, there are so many of them that practically every room has their own bathroom anyway! There is also a huge communal shower-room (the Finnish have very relaxed views on nudity!) and all the bathroom areas as immaculate and clean. The rooms at the back of the building have beatiful views over the huge back garden and the lake next to the Manor House. The room prices include breakfast, which was very good - anything from continental choices to scrambled egg and sausage. Kekkola have their own chef who is obviously extremely talented - the food at the manor was simply sublime! We decided to eat dinner in every evening - you just tell them what you would like to eat, they price the meal per head and you enjoy. They also have an A-license meaning they can serve anything from beers to spirits. They also have two saunas with access to a refreshing lake - and the best thing ever: a wood-heated hot tub! One evening we had a delicious barbeque, followed by hot sauna, very cold lake and finished relaxing in the hot tub! You also have access to rowing boats, fishing rods, tennis courts, riding lessons...

Unique Quality: Amazing location, old-fashioned charm, a wood-fired hot tub, very attentive and knowledgeable staff, gorgeous food
