Curious people ; )

There`s quite funny local habit ; - when you`ll go to Opera (in Olavinlinna castle, july) you can see local people coming to watch the opera-visitors with their fine dresses etc. And
they are like birdwatchers trying to find `famous`people...
This picture`s last July when I came from spanish opera. Look how beautiful the castle is..
Picturesque town in the heart of Lake Saimaa

In the heart of Savolinna-town locates an old castle, called Olavinlinna. This castle is built in 15th century to an small island, and later Savonlinna-town around it.
The Olavinlinna-area is very beautiful, you have to cross many bridges in Savonlinna. The town is built for seven islands.
Here`s famous operafestivals in July, and they are kept in Olavinlinna-castle.
This is a marketplace in Savolinna. By the lake it`s very picturesque, and you can enjoy cafeterias, outdoor-lunches on a terrace etc. while walking around the town.
Typical snackfood in Savonlinna is called "lörtsy", a kind of meatpie. Very delicious! You can also have it sweet, for example filled with strawberry-, apple- or arcticberry-jam.
The boat is a restaurant/bar and on the right-side of it is a salmon-restaurant.

Savonlinna=Olavinlinna-castle.
Built to this tiny island, and Savolinna town built around it.
This picture`s taken from the boat cruising around the Savonlinna.
Next summer 2006 there`s for example opera "Carmen" and a concert of operasinger Raimo Sirkiä and Nightwish-vocalist Tarja Turunen!!! Interesting combination of rock and opera... - I`ve reserved the tickets to both of them. If you wanna to Operafestivals in Savonlinna next summer, you should already reserve the tickets, for example
www.operafestivals.fi or www.lippupalvelu.fi There you can also see the program, prices for ticket etc.
You can see water everywhere in Savonlinna. It`s located by Lake Saimaa, and the town`s built for seven islands.
Beside the marketplace you can take a boat for a short cruise.
It`s so nice to sit on a deck and watch landscapes going by. Beaware of sunburn! And take a hat...This is my mother and sister`s son.
Last friday (04th Aug2005) I visited in Olavinlinna, there was a Spanish operahouse visiting from Barcelona, very nice performance with spanish opera, zarazuelas...Bravo!
So peacefull. Only few minutes of the town. And the water`s so pure you can swim almost everywhere.
It`s nice to look Savonlinna by the lake..You find it quite different.
Row, row, row your boat....Well, you`ll just sit and enjoy...
Not wondering why Finland`s so few inhabitants/squaremeter....We have a lot of space.
