Äijäkosken lomakylä (aijakoskenlomakyla): Cottages near Muonio
Nice and clean cottages by the border river (Sweden-Finland) and Äijäkoski rapids ("Old man's rapids"). About 5 km south of Muonio town. A good opportunity to watch the Midnight Sun in the summertime. The cottages include a small kitchen, tv, sauna and shower. Notice that you need to bring your own sheets. Remember to clean the cottage when you leave (or a cleaning fee will be charged). If the mosqitoes bother you, ask the owners for an electric equipment that helps to prevent the mosquitoes inside the cottage (and don't keep the door/windows open).
Call the owner couple if you don't see them in their house (information desk) when you arrive/leave. If you leave early in the morning, you may agree with the owners in beforehand on where to leave the key when you leave.
Unique Quality: The rapids are on your doorstep

Guesthouse Borealis: Rovaniemi Accomodation
We stayed here on two occasions: our first and our last night in Lapland. We had booked a triple room both times, but were upgraded to a double and a double/single use the second time. Staff was very helpful and friendly, the place is clean and quite conveniently located (near the train station). There is a supermarket within walking distance and also the central pedestrian area of Rovaniemi can be reached on foot!

Rantatuvat Luiro: A Moekki with a View
This "moekki" (cottage) is situated at the northern tip of Lake Simojaervi, about 85 km south of Rovaniemi. It is one of two cottages directly on the shore of the lake on the estate of the owner. The closest super markets are about 20 km away and the next biggest town Ranua (with shops, restaurants, a zoo and medical facilities) is 45 km away.
We found this cottage through a German travel agency that has an excellent Internet service as well - http://www.fintouring.de. I also found a link to this cottage through Ranua Zoo. You might be able to book through them - unless you speak Finnish - then feel free to call the owner yourself! He and his wife only speak Finnish (and maybe Swedish, not sure), but no English or German! Communication with them was quite funny - sign language or via cell phone with English speaking neighbors or relatives! What counts was that it worked just fine!
Heino and Saara are really sweet people who try to make your stay as enjoyable as possible! And we sure did feel like at home in their cottage!
Unique Quality: This cottage has everything you can ask for: two bedrooms with 4 beds (even 6 people could sleep there!), a kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, fridge and freezer, coffee machine, a cozy living room with a fireplace, bathroom with shower and washing machine, a sauna, a grill hut outside, electricity and piped water.
Location and views are outstanding - just 15 steps and you stand on the shore of Lake Simojaervi! There is a boat that you can use (plus 4 life vests), so fishing or just enjoying the lake is possible! We so enjoyed this place that I am already planning to return there.....
More than highly recommended!!!

Levi Cabins: Log Cabins in the Snow - Levi
Levi is a small Ski holiday town right up in the frozen north of Lapland. The ski courses of Levi fell are used regulaly for ski competitons - probably because snow is, as you can imagine, quite reliable in the artic circle. We stayed in the Levi cabins - cute looking log cabins in the forest just on the outskirts of town. This is how lapland should be done, throw a log on the blazing fire and have a reindeer steak while looking out over the snow covered pine trees.
The place had it's own little sauna as well, which was good for relaxing a battered body after a day's snowboarding.
TV, washing machine and full kitchen was all there. The cabins are close to the road where the ski bus stops every 15 mins - 30 mins. It's possible to walk to town, it'll take
about 20 - 30 mins. If you like the remote log cabin in the snow experience - this is very good, at the sacrifice of not being in the centre of town.

Hotel Äkäshotelli: Hotel&apartments
Hotel Äkäshotelli in Akaslomolo village consist of a main building and surrounding buildings with several apartments in each building. The main building is older and the rooms are not as new, either. However, the apartments (and log cabins) are worth staying in them. Equipped with sauna, cooker, fridge, TV, CD&DVD player, etc. present an enjoyable place to return to after a day packed with activities.
Unique Quality: Walking out of your apartment and sledging down a little slope or walking 2mins through deep snow to a frozen lake is fun!

Levin Matkailumaja: Great Value Chalets
We were very happy with our chalet. It had a storage area with drying cupboard, a living room with kitchen, TV, cd player and dining table.
Two bedrooms each with bunk beds, and a bathroom with sauna.
The only odd thing is that the fireplace is in the smaller of the bedrooms rather than the living room.

Scandic: Hotels
There are many hotels around Lapland, sometimes they are over priced, especially in the high seasons of Christmas, Easter and in summer. So book in advance, also check online special offers. I got few times great deals from Scandic hotels such as double room for two persons including breakfast for only 50 euro.

Nammalakuru: Out there
Nammalakuru is a two-parted cottage - one side free for everybody to use and another side which has to be booked in advance and which costs a little something... I don't know how much, didn't use it.
The tupa (living, bed, and "dining" room) has at one side, by the wall, two story beds, for some max. 20 persons, a very powerfull stove, two tables and some chairs...
There are a sink, pans&pots etc, litter basket and sometimes left-overs from previous guests... so much for the cooking corner.
Hygienic facilities are outside (of course) a little bit up the hill.
Unique Quality: During fall and winter there is no activity in the small café down the hill (some 50m), therefore you can enjoy the perfect silence all by yourself...
Except maybe in the nights when curious reindeer approach to receive their casual neighbours...
All in all this is a unique location with everything you need - and one even gets used to sleeping on hard, wooden beeds.
