Rovaniemi-Kirkenes

by lorizikuska

I am trying to get from Kirkenes to Rovaniemi at the end of March beginning of April but at that time the normal bus that runs during the summer doesn't run yet. Any suggestions how I could get there the fastest and easiest way??

I think your best bet is to go from Kirkenes to Karasjok, from where there is a daily bus to Rovaniemi. This would, according to www.rutebok.no, involve a flight to Hammerfest and then a bus to Karasjok from there. Another option is to fly to Alta, then go by bus to Karasjok. It's not very convenient, but that's public transportation in the far north, I'm afraid.

There is also the option of flying Kirkenes -> Tromsø -> Helsinki -> Rovaniemi. Norwegian have routes from Kirkenes to Tromsø and from Tromsø to Helsinki. Finnair has a route from Helsinki to Rovaniemi.

Then there's always the option of hiring a car, which does seem like the easiest option.

Good luck! :)

I've seen queries on the weather of Rovaniemi so I've decided to put the links for 'live' pictures of Rovaniemi. Yes, sometimes, you need to take a look at that place to realise how cold it can be!

Or here to look at Santa's Village.

For more information on the weather, click here to look at a visual map of Lapland. You'll need a flashplayer for this.

Santa's Residence

by europebn

I was on a tour, so we only had an hour at Santa's 'official' residence. Basically, 3/4 of that time I spent shopping for my nephew and niece, and having a letter sent to them by the 'big man' himself. Even though the place is very touristy, it can bring out the kid in you.

In summer time I would go to near the riverside. It is very beautiful. and of course during the midnight sun you must be outside and spend some good time with your friends.

In winter time you have to see santa's 'home' called pajakylä. And of course the center of the city in christmas time. it is very beautiful. City is just some nice. it is quite a small, but i like that size. Also the night life is so great. And the nature is pure and people are nicer than in the bigger cities.

Santa's Office - Meet Santa every day

by Scandic

Santa Claus Office is at Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle. You can meet Santa in his chamber every day of the year!

You don't have to visit at Santa Park or village if your only goal is say to hi to himself.

good tips for families, you'll spare bunch of money without goint to other attractions and children are usually so excited of meeting Snata that they don't want to do anything else anymore. 96930 Napapiiri

Beautiful darkness

by Scandic

Some people like darkness, some hate it. Enough is enough, I think. I don't very much like it when there is a lack of sun, but there in the far North, you'll learn that 'darkness' is kind of beautiful. Even the sun doesn't come up, you'll notice different kind of lights in the sky. There is lighter darkness and darker darkness. And I'm missing it a lot.

Winter is pose to be darker, colder and snower, ok? If you want to feel a perfect winter, Rovaniemi is a place to travel. You will see how beautiful can nature be at the noon and how much a light one candle can bring.

Sun with its different bluish is also a thing to look at.
