Cottage M420 VUORINIEMI: Cottage in beautiful nature

The Finnish forest authorities offer rental cottages via the subdevision Villi Pohjola (wild north). These cottages are beautifully located and can be rented by everybody mostly throughout the year. Their 'luxury' level differs, many have no electricity and not for all the roads are keep clear throughout the winter. My experience with these cottages is that even there is no electricity, it has always been a great unforgettable time. Heat up the sauna or have a walk or hike in the surrounding area. And most important enjoy the silence of this beauiful nature. Check out the pages of Villi Pohjola for the various huts. This tip refers to the cottage M420 Vuoriniemi, just a little north of Hyrynsalmi.

During my stay in April the landscape was still covered by a relatively thick layer of snow, after a pretty snow rich winter in Finland. The lake was still frozen with a 80 cm thick layer of ice, but still it is not recommendable to walk over the ice at all places as there are currents in the lake, which might cause the ice to be unexpectably thin. In front of the cabin it was no problem to do ice fishing and to walk over the ice. We enjoyed the fireplace at the cottage very much and I took several sauna sessions.
There are rowing boats (life wests in the cottage) which are surely a nice activity in summer. Compared to other places that I have been to the cottage was quite large and had a higher comfort (but to have a great time this is not a breaking point).

A spacious, fully-equipped old logger’s cabin situated on the shore of lake Hyrynjärvi. The cabin has a large kitchen, a living room, three bedrooms and sauna in a separate building. The beach suitable for swimming is fairly good. Cabin is well suitable for meetings, family gatherings and group trips. Accessible by car throughout the year.
