Bomba House
Before a genuine Karelian dinner in Bomba House - beside the city Nurmes -, we spend couple of hours in Bomba Spa - warm baths, saunas and relaxing time in pools. In the late evening a buffet with typical Karelian food and delicasies in a Karelian restaurant. Classical Karelin style Bomba House and the surrounding Karelian village are really worth seeing or even staying.
This is Finland's real "National Landscape" which You can experience at Northern Karelia, close to cities Lieksa and Joensuu.
lt has inspired some of our greatest artists, including Albert Edelfelt and Eero Järnefelt, whose paintings immortalized Koli around the turn of the century and in no small measure stimulated the national awakening then taking place. Sibelius, too, wove this landscape into his symphonies.
These are landscapes worth viewing from the water as well. The largest car ferry on a Finnish inland waterway and numerous other boats sail right past. Why not to take a cruise and enjoy good service and fascinating scenery!
I visited Northern Karelia by car August 1998 and -yes- the summer time is definetely the best time to get these shots!
