The nature is incredible, so are the people. I remember waing up in the morning and smelling the fresh air, then getting on my bike and riding up the Tiasenkatu to get delicious strawberry ice cream along the lake.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE BEST TIME TO WATCH AURORA BOREALIS IN JOENSUU? MONTH? TIME? AND CAN IT BE SEEN EVERYWERE IN FINLAND?
The best time is usually in the middle of winter (December - March) in the middle of the night when the sky is bright and the temperature is freezing... :)
I think you can see aurora borealis almost everywhere in Finland but as it is a part of the nature around us, you can't be 100% sure about the time / place beforehand... Good luck!!
Hi,
The pulsating and multicoloured northern lights (= Aurora borealis) are born at a height of about 100 kilometers above ground level as electrically charged particles collide with the earth´s atmosphere near the magnetic poles.
So the closer the magnetic poles you are the better possibilities you have for seeing northern lights. They may be seen everywhere in Finland but Lapland is the best place for that. Joensuu is so southern place that it isn´t a very good place. But it is possible to see northern lights in Joensuu.
Northern lights can be seen from the beginning of September until April (but not every night). Our summertime isn´t dark enough for seeing northern lights (we have the midnight sun).
Regards,
:) Finlandia

Joensuu in English is 'Joe's mouth' :)
Joensuu is the main town of northern Carelia and it is situated by Lake Pyhäselkä, at the estuary of the Pielisjoki river. Joensuu market has Carelian atmosphere and tastes. You can enjoy the beauty of the summer on the water, and in winter it is possible
to go straight from the centre into the nature - on skis, motor sleighs or snow boot safaris.
I have cousins in Joensuu too.. :) So this is another place in Finland I visit quite often. I would probably go there even more often but the 500 kilometres between Helsinki and Joensuu are too much for every month visits. Our summer cottage is only (?) 100 kilometers from Joensuu so I usually visit there in summer time.
