Train from Strasbourg to Colmar

by Chargap

We are flying from Charles de Gaulle and we arrive Strasbourg around 6pm and have a hotel reservation in Colmar--how late do the local trains run and where can I find a schedule? We are from Canada so not familiar with your local trains

Re: Train from Strasbourg to Colmar

You can find train times and details for almost all European trains in English on the reliable and accurate:

http://www.bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/index.shtml

There are lots of trains, with the last one leaving at 2251.

If you want to check fares as well you should use the French language:

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train/horaires

It is easy to work out. Do not choose the English option because you will be taken to TGV/Raileurope, whihc does not list all departures (and Raileurope charges commission on fares0.

Fares are from 11 euro one-way, depending on departure time. You do not need to buy tickets in advance online. You can simply use the ticket machines (or ticket office) at the station. Always best to use cash in machines, imo, to avoid any hitches with 'foreign' cards.

Are there Senior fares on these trains? Charga.

There's a printable timetable here

http://telechargement.ter-sncf.com/Images/Alsace/Tridion/AG_02_A_Strasbourg_S%A9lestat_Colmar_tcm-10-29591_20101126_1556.pdf

Trains run once every hour most of the day, every 30 minutes at peak times.

Senior fares are available if you have a Carte Senior - http://www.senior-sncf.com/accueil/

which you won't of course! The card costs 50 Euros, so not worth it for a short stay.

Re: Train from Strasbourg to Colmar

When I bought my ticket from Strasbourg to Colmar from the ticket desk in the Gare de Strasbourg, the clerk asked me if I was 60 or over and when I replied that I was, she sold me the ticket for 16 euros return (August, 2009). I was asked a number of times during my stay in Germany, France and Austria and I had no special card though I did have proof of age in my passport and Driver's Licence. You may be lucky

The airport actually has a railway station, called "Entzheim Aerport". The best thing is to buy a through ticket for Colmar there. There is a train from there to Colmar (always with a change in Strassbourg) every hour.
This station does not have a ticket window though. only a ticket vending machine.

Trains from Strasbourg to Colmar run half hourly on week days, hourly on week-end, till 23.30 approximatively. So plenty of time. No need to book either.

Travel Tips for Colmar

Alsace Wine Route

by annk

Colmar is located in north eastern France in the Alsace Region about 2/3 of the way down the wine route. If you visit the cities of Colmar and Strasbourg, take time to see the picturesque little wine towns. There are over 100 of them. Best way to see them is by car but if you are travelling by train you can take 1/2 day guided van tours, or catch a bus from the train station.

Michelin's Green Guide

by annk

Michelin's Green Guide to Alsace, Lorraine & Champagne is highly recommended. The most comprehensive guide on the area. Was surprised to see so many visitors with this guide in many different languages.

Musée d'Art Juif

by traveloturc

This is the museum of Jew arts and community.
In the year of 1349 all the jews of Colmar were burned and burried in the well known as "judenloch" in the district of Ladhof .
The museum has a collection of some rare jew arts

Little Venice

by Maryimelda

There are many towns and cities in Europe with a "Little Venice". This one is my favourite of the three I have seen, I must admit. Easy to find in the centre of the old town, it is the very best place to sit and watch the world go by. Lots of lovely little restaurants to enjoy as well. It's the perfect spot for a coffee break whilst you're walking around the town.

Maison Pfister

by german_eagle

Maison Pfister is considered to be one of the most beautiful townhouses in Alsace. It is named after a previous owner of the 19th century.

The house was built 1537 for the hatter Ludwig Scherer. The architecture (with wood-carved loggia and alcove over two floors) is still medieval, but the decoration of the facade is in Renaissance style.

The paintings depict Habsburg Emperors of the 16th century, evangelists, bible scenes etc.
