Travel Tips for Kaysersberg

Ancient Roman City Now A Vinters' Center

by hquittner

"Birth Place of Albert Schweitzer"

The small city of Kaysersberg started in Roman times. In the 13C the town was bought by Frederick II along with its castle that is about 1 km from the center of town, as a protection against attacks by the Dukes of Lorraine. The parish church should be studied both outside and inside as well as its surroundings. There are numerous fine old buildings in the city.

A must see village

by Carino

"Old Town"

Kaysersberg mostly stayed the way it was and that makes it so special.

Sadly, the town is packed with tourists who wanna see the birthplace of Albert Schweitzer, buy some cookies or enjoy a coffee in the Cafés.

Try to go there either early in t he day or in the evening.

It's very close to Colmar.

Kaysersberg - "Mount of the Emperor"

by annk

While based in Colmar we decided to take a 1/2 day tour of the wine villages, Kayserberg being one of them. There are 100 in total, we only stopped briefly at 3 and drove through a few more. While we barely touched on these quaint little villages, we at least experienced the flavor of these medeival towns surrounded by vineyards.

Kaysersberg is built along the banks of the Weiss River which only adds to its beauty and is nestled upon foothills. It is also the birthplace of Albert Schweitzer who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952.

Events: In December they host a medieval market.
