Sports- & Racing-cars galore
by globetrott
In the back of the museum you will see a seperate hall, all filled with the most famous racing-cars of history, and they are arranged like they were just about to start a race in Le Mans. Inside that hall, you may hear the sound of the engines and the audience screeming - the only strange thing is the fact, that there is NO driver sitting in any car yet.
Trabant Coach 601 LS - the "TRABBI"
by globetrott
This is another big achievement in car-history and it became the dream of generations of people living in the DDR ( German Democratic Republic / former east Germany).
Everybody had the dream to posess such a car, as western cars were out of reach anyway, and a Trabbi was rather cheap, once that you had it, BUT most people had to wait for it for several years, after ordering the car.
Standing on the right political side could speed up the waiting-time a lot, beeing on the wrong side might have doubbled the waiting-time...
And people knew a lot of nice words to express their feeling for this great car :
"Rennpappe" (speed-carton)
"Überdachte Zündkerze" (sparking plug with a top)

Bugatti Type 16 "Roland Garros" - 1912
by globetrott
Roland Garros ordered a car of that Bugatti type 16 and for that reason Ettore Bugatti gave that name to all cars of the type 16.
Roland Garros was a famous airpilote in the war, a well known hero of that time and therefore you see an aircraft in the back.
b.t.w. The Tennis-stadion in Paris, where the French open is held, is also called after Roland Garros.

Dufaux 100/120PS of 1904
by globetrott
This is in fact a unique car, built by 2 brothers in Switzerland.
The engine of this car has 12,7 litres and is the biggest engine of the museum in Mulhouse.
Also the top-speed of 140 km/h is almost incredible for á car in 1904.
Nevertheless, after constructing this car, the brothers changed into the banking-business...
