Mutzig, more than a beer!
Mutzig is a little town on 6,000 near Molsheim and 20 km west to Strasbourg.
The name Mutzig is famous because of the eponymous beer. The Mutzig brewery was founded in 1810 by Antoine Wagner. It was bought in 1972 by the Heineken group and though no beer is now produced anymore in the Mutzig brewery, it is produced in neighboring Schiltigheim (22 km away, north of Strasbourg) under the brand name Mützig.
Note that the name of the city has no umlaut and is pronounced accordingly while the name of the beer is topped by an umlaut and again is pronounced accordingly! Logical but amazing!
Thank you George (VT Tiabunna) for pointing out that I had mistakingly written "bier" (like in German) while I meant "beer". You have taught me that it had a very different meaning (!) and we have now agreed to meet in front of a cold beer, without any further mistake!
