Église Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul, central entrance
by JLBG
The first photo is a general view of the central entrance.
The second photo is a close up on the door itself and shows the central pillar with the statue of the Virgin Mary.
The third photo is a close up on the Tympanum. It is divided in three part.
On the upper part, Saint Pierre (Peter) and Saint Paul frame Saint Odile under the Hohenzollern eagle (the church was built while Alsace was ruled by Germany)
On the middle stripe, Jesus Christ lays dead, framed by his twelve followers. On each side, three women are crying.
The lower strip is divided in four medallions that represent scenes of Christ’s life.
The Remparts
by JLBG
The Remparts were made of a double city wall of 1.5 km around the old city with 8 entrances. The entrances were put down in the 19th. There remains 30 towers, some in poor condition others well kept. The two shown on the two photos stand near Église Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul.
The platform of the Remparts is now a promenade and a (free) parking lot.
It shuts at 10

We arrived in Obernai at 10pm as we were on an early evening flight from the UK and we found that almost everything was closed.
We eventually found one bar which was still open, Bar 55, where we could at least get a drink but no food, so we went to bed hungry.
However despite that, I think its a nice little town for an overnight visit. In the morning we found it had a nice square with pattiserie, shops, church and all the things you expect in a little town in France. We had a good meal on our second night, we sat down to eat about seven just to make sure.
