Hotel in Strasbourg

by Jeannette1

I am looking for a hotel recommendation in Strasbourg, France for September.

We will be driving, so parking is important. I'd prefer a hotel within walking distance from the cathedral and the Petite France. Is it possible to find a clean hotel in that part of town for around 100 Euros? (+parking)?

Any recommendations for specific hotels would be appreciated. I am looking at various websites now but it would be nice if I could have a recommendation from someone who has actually stayed at the hotel.
Thank you
Jeannette

Thank you, Pedmar.
The Cathedral hotel sounds good but I am wondering if you've ever stayed in the "attic rooms". They are the least expensive rooms and I am wondering what's lacking there.
Also was it hard to find your way from the freeway to the hotel ?

We've stayed at the Ibis Ponts Couverts in Strasbourg.
Very basic, as are all Ibis-hotels, but a great location ... short walking distance to Petite France. Parking available.

Travel Tips for Strasbourg

River L'Ill

by ATXtraveler

This is the main river in and around Strasbourg, although we are still unclear whether or not it is just a tributary for the Rhine River. According to the maps, they appear to come together on the north east side of Strasbourg. Either way, this wonderful little river gives Strasbourg a great feel, as it surrounds the historic city center, and makes for a great chance to take a river cruise.

Place de la République, Théatre National de Strasb

by JLBG

Place de la République (Republic Square) is not in the ancient city and when you walk over the Ill, out of Place Broglie, Place de la République makes a striking difference. It looks almost like a German or Austrian city. This Square was drawn and built between 1870 and 1914, when Strassburg was the capital of the Reichsland of Elsatz-Mosel. Emperor Wilhelm 1st wanted to make it the show room of the power of the Empire. Five prestigious buildings have been built during that period.

The Diet of the Reichsland of Elsatz-Mosel became after 1918 the Music Conservatory. Since the decentralization of Parisian theaters, it is now the TNS : Théâtre National de Strasbourg.

Eat the food. I was trying out my French. I got the wrong meal. I ordered Beef Veal. I thought it was a cut of beef. Well I was wrong, LIVER. I hate liver but I ate it. It was good for liver, the way they cook things does make me want to try different foods. Food my favorite subject.

Arte

by Nemorino

Anyone living in France or Germany can watch the television channel Arte in the local language. It tends to bring ambitious, cultural programming so it does not have huge viewing quotas, but it can be very good, and they often have theme evenings with several films or discussions about the same topic.

They also do live opera broadcasts sometimes.

The studios are located here because Strasbourg is in France but is very close to the German border, which at this point is formed by the Rhine River about ten kilometers away.

By Train

by mignonne

Walking around is the best way, after eating, we need to exercise a little bit! hahaha. You can also take the Tram, it's fast and clean and not very expensive. It costs about 3,5 French Francs per trip / about 1 EURO and if you happen to change the tram to get to another place, if it is in the same direction, you can keep the ticket for 1 hour. Validity of ticket= 1hr in the same direction. They do have buses too.
