Weather

by RobinLinde

Can you expect snow in December?
Is there a train service from Strasbourg to a village called Moussey in France?

Re: Weather

by mariev

Snow in december has become something uncommon in Strasbourg in the last years (we got some 3 years ago, nothing in the last 2 years)
Wich Moussey ? there are several places in France called Moussey (in the Vosges, in the Mosellle, in the Aube, ..)

Travel Tips for Strasbourg

Obligatory church

by Nexus7

This is a bad picture of a pretty church. This town has a giant cathedral that has only one spire. I didn't get a good picture of it, so I didn't bother including it. The second spire was never finished as of like six hundred years ago. The town is made fun of for this reason. They are currently in the process of finishing the last spire at a much faster pace and lower loss of life than the other spire.

Vaubin's Dam

by steventilly

Set where the river Ill enters Strasbourg, this dam was part of the cities defenses. In times of invasion, the lock gates would be raised to allow water to flood the city, hampering the invaders.

There is a walkway through Vaubin's Dam, from one side of the river to the other, which led us to think it was The Pont Couvert for a while! There is also a grassy terrace on top of the dam, giving views over the city (accessible from one side of the dam only).

Don't miss the Alsatian wine villages

by Beausoleil

This photo was taken in Barr (see my Barr Travel Page) but there are so many charming and quaint wine villages in the area it is difficult to choose one. We usually stay in Barr and visit the surrounding area. This is one of those cases where you can't make a wrong choice. We love Ribeauville, Barr, Gertwiller, Obernai . . . the list goes on.

Stop at the Strasbourg Tourist Office and get a brochure with wine route maps or just book a tour if you don't have a car.

Click on the photo for pictures of other wine villages. Also check the web site for the Plus Beaux Villes of France below. There are now 154 "Most Beautiful Villages" of France and they are all lovely.

Construction at the Central Station

by Nemorino

The square in front of the central train station is one big construction site at present [= June 2006], both because of improvements to the tram system and in preparation for the new high-speed rail line TGV Est, which will reach Strasbourg in 2007.

Train travel from Strasbourg to Paris will then take only 2 hours and 20 minutes, instead of four hours as it does now. And they are planning on 15 high-speed trains per day in each direction.

Second photo: The sign in the station says "2005-2007, Everything is changing in the Strasbourg Station. Two years of major construction to prepare for the arrival of the TGV East European."

Traditional French dishes

by Cristian_Uluru about L'Ami Schutz

L'Ami Schutz is located in the "Petite France District", one of the most beautiful place of Strasbourg. Here you can taste French and local dishes with an original touch. The staff is very friendly and the ambience is very nice: an old house with a nice garden. The restaurant is quite good. It has got some menu of different prices so you can choose what do you like. I taste a disgusting Le gaspacho de tomate et pastèque, île au basilic (Tomato and watermelon Gaspacho soup with a basil flavoured « island »); very good was La poêlée de saumon au lard et aux champignons, misala et ail en chemise,
jus corsé au cumin (Fried salmon with bacon, mushrooms, baby potatoes and baked garlic cloves, cumin sauce) and for dessert you must taste the homemade ice cream or La crème caramel aux zestes d'agrumes (A vanilla caramel flan with citrus zests).
