Paris-Strasbourg
by kingaaa
Hi
I would like to ask which is the cheapest way to travel from Paris to Strasbourg? Bus or train? Where can I book tickets?
Thanks

Bus is usually cheaper than train, but I can't find a bus connection from Paris. Perhaps another VT-er can.
You can find train times and fares in French (easy to work out) here:
http://www.voyages-sncf.com/
Don't choose the English translation, because it will take you to Raileurope which does not list all departures and charges commission on fares.
Journey takes around 2h 20m, lots of departures per day, one-way fare from 63 euro (depending on train0 but there are also cheaper advance online fares for some departures.
You can try and buy your ticket online, or can just get it at the station.
Travel Tips for Strasbourg
Place Broglie, Opéra National du Rhin
by JLBG
The Théâtre municipal was built in 1820 at one end of Place Broglie. It was built in a neo-classical style with a front adorned with a colossal peristyle with ionic columns. It is topped by muses but they are only 6 though they should be 9. I do not know who are the missing muses! It is now the Opéra National du Rhin. In front of the Opera, stands (December 2006) a wooden horse. It actually represents the Trojan horse. It has been built here because the Opera has played in October and November "Les Troyens", Grand opéra en cinq actes d’Hector Berlioz
The Trojan horse is on the far left of the first photo. It is better seen as a close up on the second photo.

Le Petite France
by bugulma
It is the most picturesque district of old Strasbourg. Previously the fishers', millers' and tanners' district. It is the spirit of peace at the heart of the city. The alleys of the Petite France offer a succession of half-timbered houses of the XVIth and XVIIth century, with vast interior courts, large sloped roofs, and open attic areas where the pelts were once dried.
Kougelhopf
by Kathrin_E
The Kougelhopf (in German: "Gugelhupf") is a traditional Alsatian cake with raisins. Unlike other cakes, Kougelhopf is not sweet and not intended to be served with coffee or tea. The appropriate drink to have with this cake is a dry Gewürztraminer, a variety of white wine that has a flowery, perfumed flavour.
Palais du Rhin
by mariev
After the 1870/71 Franco-German war, Alsace became a Reichland (german province) with Strasbourg as a capital.
The Kaiser Wilhelm II ordered a new area to be built north/east of the existing city : this quarter sill exists, barely modified : the german quarter, with its typically 'prussian' architecture.
He wanted to impress the locals (and to have a "nice little coutryhouse" in his new domain) and so ordered this 'Palais du Rhin'.
From the eastethic point of view, it seems that he missed one fine point (or more) : the Strasburgers weren't impressed at all but found the building rather ridiculous and nicknamed it " die Elephantenstall" (the elephants' stable).
This large and pompous edifice, situated Place de la Republique, hosts now the Central Commission for the Navigation on the Rhine wich is in charge of ensuring the safety and the prosperity of the navigation on the Rhine.
It's wide vestibule is often used to showcase modern art exhibitions.

If you're coming from Germany...
by DrewV
If you're coming from Germany, forget it. It's nearly impossible. There are 30,000 trains a day to Paris, and only 2 across the Rhine. Maybe not that bad, but it can be exceptionally frustrating trying to get there. Just look at this frustration in the random Badenische town of Offenburg.
