Christmas in the Dordogne

by Bonneys

Please can you tell us what's happening in Bergerac at Christmas? We are there from 21/12/07 until 31/12/07 and are perticularly keen to know what to do on Christmas Eve that doesn't require dancing and loud noises!!
We are looking for something refined and quiet but something that will get us into the Christmas spirit!
Look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Christmas in the Dordogne

French people celebrate Christmas Eve over a good meal with their family generally. Some (less and less) go to Midnight Mass. I'm afraid that, as tourists unless you know someone there, you will not have much to do that night.

Dancing and loud noises are for New Year's Eve.

Bergerac ~ A Sleeper Hit

by Canadienne

I almost bypassed Bergerac on our route in the Perigord, as I had read a not-too-flattering write up in one of the guidebooks. Thankfully, some instinct caused me to drive in for a look around. . .we ended up staying two full days. . .and I wished we had stayed just a bit longer. It's a sleepy, unassuming little town (we kept mainly to the vielle ville and the maze of little streets throughout) with lots of squares, courtyards and gardens to explore. Everywhere we turned, there was an item of interest ~ like the striking blue doorway in this photo.
