Trains from Biarritz to San Sebastian

Would like to take train from Biarritz to San Sebastian in late June 2008. can't seem to find info, can anyone please provide guidance. Are there direct trains, or must one change at Hendaye. Is it a pretty journey, or am I better off driving? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

There is a small privately run train (Euskotren?) from Hendaye to San Sebastian and Bilbao. Otherwise there is a very efficient, inexpensive coach service from Irun, which is far quicker and more direct than the mainline train.

From what I remember, the main train line goes *well* into Spain, before you have to change trains and head back north towards the coast.

Yes the best way is to take the French SNCF train to Hendaye. From there the Euskotren train runs to San Sebastian every 30 minutes - website is www.euskotren.es in Castellano/Spanish and Basque languages only.

The Euskotren station at Hendaye is next to the main SNCF station outside the front door to the right.

Note that in the Euskotren timetable San Sebastian is referred to by its Basque name Donostia.

It is quite a pleasant journey of about 40 minutes from Hendaye.

Go to the Eurail website. There's a train map there for the area. Yes, you have to change at Irun. I think it's about a 30 mins. trip. From the map it should be beautiful. Good luck.

Biarritz once was the Monte Carlo of Cote D'Atlantique (Atlantic Coast),
and loved by its visitor Napoleon III.
Also Rita Hayworth loved to have a little holiday here,
Bette Davis stayed here, included Ernest Hemingway and Frank Sinatra.

The glamour is faded away,
and chic and shabby walk hand in hand.
Still it is truly beautiful here,
where the sound of crashing waves surprise the breakers,
and the sandy beaches appear with ebb-tide.
