It is much better to use Euskotren from Donostia (San Sebastian) to Hendaye then SNCF from Hendaye to Biarritz.

Euskotren trains run every 30 minutes and take a direct route towards France.

Euskotren is a private company and details are on their website www.euskotren.es in Spanish and cannot be found on the RENFE website nor almost anywhere else!

For anyone who has never been to France then be careful when entering the public toilets, you may pass guys and girls as you walk in/out but don't panic its normal !
Me being abit shy at the time and not wanting to share my toilet with a man, crossed my legs til we got back to the campgrounds toilets ( which where seperate ! )

Resort Town in Basque country

by lonestar_philomath

"Biarritz Resort Town"

The original inhabitants of Biarritz were the Vikings who invaded Gascony in 840. They settled in the area above the Gardague Beach and their descendants continued living in the area settling in Gascony and Navarra. Their influence dissapeared at the beginning of the 20th centurt.

Biarritz is a Basque name.
In 1170 the city was called Bearriz, in1189 Bearids, and Bearritz in 1249.

"Royalty vacationed in Biarritz"

The Hôtel du Palais was originally built as a palace for the wife of Napoleon III , Empress Eugenie, in 1854. Queen Victoria, Edward VII, and Alfonso XIII of Spain, as well as other European royalty were frequent visitors.

This building, though impressive, is just one of the hotels along the beach!

Biarritz was originally a whaling village for the Vikings/Scandanavians. In the 18th century doctors recommended that the ocean at Biarritz had therapeutic properties, inspiring patients to make pilgrimages to the beach for alleged cures for their ailments!
