Biarritz to St. Jean Pied de Port

by taibhsearachd

What bus would I take to go from Biarritz to the Bayonne railway station and how long would it take me to get there? From there I need to catch the train to St. Jean Pied de Port. I will be travelling on a Sunday in mid-April. Merci pour votre assistance.

Bonjour! I researched that region last April so checked my notes and searched fresh info on French train site (SNCF). I put in fictional travel date of Sunday, 18 April 2010.

STAB (Urban Bus Transport in region) came up with full itinerary from Gare SNCF Biarritz Bus Stop to Gare SNCF Bayonne (at Place Pereire in Bayonne.)
Takes 43 minutes. I will send you all details if you choose this method. Please let me know.

Searches for trains gave me many trains from Biarritz to Bayonne, at 2,50 Euros one way and travel time only 10 minutes.

Train search fm Bayonne to St Jean Pied de Port (Garazi in Basque) showed a result but with Autocar in brackets. This means all or part of way is done by bus. Cost 8,60, travel time 1 hour 21 minutes.

Careful! I know from past experience (I lived in the area) that there was a train Bayonne-St Jean Pied de Port but in 2008 there was talk that the line would be put out of service as it wasn't making money. I'm enquiring about this now and will let you know what I hear. (I have the 2008 schedule, will send if necessary.)
That particular ride is fabulous, beautiful! Hope it's still on!
Talk to you later if needed. Someone else might come up with up-to-date info before I get an answer from friends there.

No trains anymore from Bayonne to St Jean Pied de Port. . . . . but SNCF (French train company) runs a bus line :

TER Aquitaine: http://www.ter-sncf.com/Regions/aquitaine/Fr/Se_deplacer_en_TER/Avant_mon_voyage/Recherche_d_itineraires/Default.aspx
Enter your destinations : there are 5 buses per day.

Getting back with info just received. I'm passing it on to you, link included, although I did not check out the info provided by other poster, which may be the same.

There is no train service during the first semester 2010 between Bayonne and St Jean Pied de Port, as repairs are being done to tracks. Service is ensured by bus. Here is a link to full schedule:

Thank you so much for all your help. I will take a train between Biarritz and Bayonne, since it seems that is the fastest, and then the available bus service from there to SJPP.

La Grande Plage

by Klod5

One of the more beautiful and bigger beaches of Biarritz, that spreads from the north to the south of the bay between the hotel of the Palace and the Bellevue.
It is the only one that aît preserved of the colorful canvas tents (it is not more obligatory to change itself of it since 1930!), that one can rent, even at the day.
The ideal is to go on foot to the Big Beach situated to the cœur of the city. Two underground parking lots can welcome you (under the Casino).

Le Casino de Biarritz

by iNorv9

Biarritz's casino, opened in 1901, helped transform the town into European tourist destination. This striking white building is located right off le Grand Plage Beach, and still offers slots machines, roulette, blackjack, restaurants and a night club.
