Weather and Accomodation in August

by casey2006

Hi,we are thinking of travelling to Biarritz, mid August and staying for a few days before heading down towards Santander.
Ive read a few reports saying that the weather can be very rainy in August? Can anyone tell me what weather to expect?
Also, would this be peak season and if so will accomodation be very expensive? We didnt plan on booking accomodation ahead of time, but will that leave us at risk of not being able to get anything decent once we arrive!!
Thanks for your help.

Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.
Most places now are seeing weather conditions well outside the norm.
The information below should be used as a guide only.

Here is the average weather for Biarritz for this time of year.
Enjoy your holiday.

It's very cloudy and rainy now, with thunderstorms added. The weather is fairly kind but you can expect two or three rainy days in every two weeks.

Travel Tips for Biarritz

Le musée de la mer

by Klod5

The museum of the sea

Dive in the gulf of Gascogne

The party took is to illustrate the historic, geographical, economic and cultural ties between the city of Biarritz and his/her/its coast and the ocean.

The visit of the museum is organized according to two sons drivers:

"Why there?"

Had to (honest) attend a conference!

Well, maybe it was optional!

Anyway, it was fun.

I'd passed thru on the train before (Easter 1973) on my way to & from Madrid, and it looked nice (the whole Cote Basque in fact). I spent a night in San Sebastian, just over the border. My parents went to Biarritz in summer 1973, and loved it.

So...I took my chance when it came.

"verdict"

- beautiful beaches (its a big surfing place)
- great food (Basque specialities)
- good base to explore Basque country (Spanish and French)
- also good base for exploring the western Pyrenees

in other words, it has a lot going for it!

my photos have disappeared, so the ones used are from the local tourism office
