Well located cheap hotel...

I expect you can't get much cheaper than Hotel Choiseul in the heart of Bordeaux. It cost me 29 euros for a single room for one night (including a booking fee through www.hostelworld.com). For the price you will get your own airy room (I believe the doubles have en-suite shower rooms), some original features (mine had wooden floors and a chunky old radiator) and even a basic TV. My single room overlooked the street, which was not busy or noisy. The hotel staff I met were extremely genial and friendly.

The downsides? A very tiny pillow. And the shared showers for the single rooms were on the top floor!

There was no breakfast (or drink) facilities included. There are one or two bars nearby (the Bar Le France was quite unfriendly), a small Chinese restaurant and a patisserie directly opposite. If you want a beer the best place to head for would be Place Gambetta, 200m away. For cheap eating, there were plenty of eateries, kebab shops and a late-night grocers on rue du Palais-Gallien. In any case you are a 15 minute walk from the pedestrianised city centre.
