self catering hotel

I stayed at my boyfriend's self catering apartment in the business district of Meriadeck where he is staying for work. As he is living alone in Bordeaux, he only has a studio apartment, but the space saving ideas in use here make the room perfectly liveable for longer stays as well as short. There is a separate toilet, kitchen area with small oven and hotplates, fridge freezer and sink, bedroom/lounge and separate bathroom. There is plenty of storage space and the dining table folds down to give a larger floor area. It still looks like a hotel room of course, but little personal touches can make it feel more like home if you want to stay longer. There is a phone and TV set, plenty of powerpoints, 2 dining chairs and one armchair. Unfortunately there isn't any air conditioning here, however, this is not unusual. There is a balcony with a view across Bordeaux, but the view is not really impressive. This apartment is functional and reasonably priced giving guests the freedom to cater for themselves. The photo shows the scrambled egg and smoked salmon champagne breakfast Rob rustled up for me on my birthday.

Unique Quality: The aparthotel faces a main road which is fairly uninspiring, but the back of the building looks out over a series of courtyards and gardens with a fountain, some grass and lots of trees and benches. A nice place to sit and relax not too far from home. On the far side of the gardens is the Centre Meriadeck, a well designed shopping precinct with clothes shops, shoe shops, sports shops, a hairdresser and a hypermarket on 3 levels. Meriadeck is at the end of one of the major tram routes around the town, but the area is still well within walking distance of most places in Bordeaux town.
