Where to Eat?

by jon1708

Can anyone tell me about any decent restaurants in the Centre of Bordaux, especially ones that'll be open on Bank Holiday Monday? Ideal price range 20 - 25 euros per person. Need to seat about 10 people.

Thanks in Advance

Jon

You could maybe try the Cafe Francais, Place Pey-Berland, and the terrasse is really enjoyable when the sun's shining, you're in front of the cathedral and besides the Palais Rohan (mayor's office)
Heard that the steak tartare was really good, if you're into raw beef (I am)

Travel Tips for Bordeaux

Saint Pierre

by ceswho

The Saint Pierre District is a maze of streets lined with beautiful district, many of which are craftman's boutiques and artists' workshops. However, the district also features avant-garde show rooms.
The many squares offer picturesque outdoor restaurants and cafe's in which to enjoy a relaxing moment.

As a student you can use the cheaper Tarif Réduit tickets but you need to have a Carte Bordeaux Etudiant which costs 30F for the year. If you do the language course you may get one when you register; otherwise you need to go to one of the offices of the CGFTE, the bus company, with your university student card and a passport photo. The tickets are very cheap and you buy them in advance in strips of ten at newsagents. Ask for un carnet de tickets de bus 'au tarif réduit'. You can get copies of the timetables from the CGFTE shop or from the roving information bus.
When you get on the bus you have to stamp your ticket in one of the orange machines. This puts the time and date on the ticket. You can stamp the same ticket up to four times, to change bus, provided that the last time stamp is within an hour of the first stamp.
There are no individual ticket inspectors, but every now and then a whole group get on the bus at once to check tickets. If your ticket hasn't been stamped, is invalid or you don't have the Carte Bordeaux Etudiant and the talon that comes with each strip of tickets then you get an on the spot fine of 100F. You don't have to pay the fine, but if you decide not to, you will be dragged off the bus and marched into the police station.

Tour Pey-Berland

by black_mimi99

Even more imposing than the cathedral itself is the 50m gargoyled, gothic belfry, TOUR Pey-Berland. Erected between 1440 and 1466, its spire was added in the 19th century, and in 1863 it was stopped off with the statue of Notre Dame of Aquitaine (Our Lady of Aquitaine). Scaling the tower's 232 steep, narrow steps rewards you with an unfolding panorama of the city.

The Theater: See Where the Action Is

by hquittner

The theater has a fanciful trompe l'oeil backdrop and a similarly created florid proscenium. They are a throwback to the Palladian theater in Vicenza. The ceiling is painted in graceful symbolic Rococo female figures, who also appear in plaster and three dimensional on the support walls. It is hard to depart down the great stairs.

"Bordeaux...A typical France city?"

I arrived there at 10.45 in the morning of January 10th and take a Jetbus to Ibis Hotel. Take us around 30 minutes to get there.

"Near Park"

At park near our Hotel and next to Shopping Complex Auchan.

"Universite Bordeaux 2"

We discover this university by chance after long walk through St Catherine street. My friend told to sleep early because we have to find the university but in the night i check a mind and found this university. Inside city centre next to Plaza De Victorie
