Chateau La Brède, a few km south of Bordeaux was the home of Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Labrède et Montesquieu. He was one of the most important philosophus of the 17th century, worldfamous for his writings which helped to prepare the way for the French Revolution. Most of his time he spent in Bordeaux where he was the president of the city parliament for decades.
