Chateau La Brède, a few km...
by MProcher
Chateau La Brède, a few km south of Bordeaux was the home of Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Labrède et Montesquieu. He was one of the most important philosophus of the 17th century, worldfamous for his writings which helped to prepare the way for the French Revolution. Most of his time he spent in Bordeaux where he was the president of the city parliament for decades.
Walk
by Gypsystravels
Like most cities in Europe, Bordeaux is pretty compact with most of the major sites centrally located and easily reached by walking. We arrived by car and started our exploring on foot.
Walking is one of my favorite ways of exploring a city because it allows me a better perspective of the city, I can go "off the beaten path" at my pace, stopping to admire beautiful architecture, city life, or a quick stop for a snack or drink.
Burgandy Gate
by Gypsystravels
Located here on Cours Victor Hugo is one of the gates of Bordeaux, the Burgandy gate. The present gate replace the former "Salineres Gate" of the 14th Century and was dedicated to the Dauphin's son, the Duke of Burgundy.
Tribunal de Grande Instance
by Mique
When you walk along cours d'Albret you'll see a very modern building on your right-hand side just after you've passed the palace of justice. This is the Tribunal de Grande Instance. Nothing very spectacular from the front but if you take a look back at the building when you've crossed the next street you see a weird object attached to the building. Though i don't know what it's function is, i found it very interesting nontheless.
Bordeaux
by davidlop
I can't say much of a city visited only for one day, specially if the day was Sunday... empty streets in the morning, but... today there was some kind of summer festival, so in the afternoon, people coming from everywhere were just hanging down all around!!!
Appart from people, the old quarter is pretty (even refurbished), with its winding narrow streets, plenty of terraces and small shops...
Of course, it is also in a wineries area, so if you like wine, it is a good oportunity to have a ride (to St. Émilion, for an instance, not so far away if you drive)
