A gem of a hotel!

I spent just over a week at this fantastic hotel and was loathe to leave at all! It has just 18 rooms, a pool set in the private gardens, and one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at.

The Domaine de la Barde is a 5 minute stroll from the tiny village of Le Bugue (near Les Eyzies) in the Dordogne. It used to be a merchants house, and now operates as a 4/5 star country house hotel. The room we had was generous and looked out over the grounds, and had an immaculate en suite bathroom. The food was spectacular, even though (not being too familiar with the French language) our selection process was some what pot luck!

Not cheap, but I would recommend this place like a shot. I think the owners have done a great job keeping the character of the building, but, as with any place, it is the staff who have the power to make or break a place, and the staff here looked after us really well.
