The Lead Town in South Bearn Is Oloron-Ste. Marie
"An Important Medieval City"
Oloron was a growing city in the beginning of the 12C set on a hillside on the Gave d'Aspe in southwest Bearn where Gaston IV built two churches, one in the center of town on the right bank, Ste-Croix, and the other in the suburbs on the other side as a Cathedral, Ste. Marie. The town became his base from which he went on after his success as one of the main leaders of the First Crusade to become an early leader of the Spanish Reconquest.
