Hotel du Bearn: The only hotel in town

If you go for "Hip" or "boutique" hotels this is not the place for you!

If you enjoy old fashioned, traditional hospitality in comfortable, clean surroundings with excellent food, and a taste for a style of inn keeping of an earlier age - at at a reasonable price look no further.

Low season - so gardens not at their best, the pool covered, outside dining terrace a little neglected, but comfortable room and beds, adequate bathroom.
And - a modern touch - Free unlimited Wi-Fi in the room.

Decor throughout was something else, very 1950's French perhaps. It defeats my limited descriptive abilities but does not offend and there was a poesy of fresh flowers on every table in the restaurant, and on breakfast tables freshly picked blue bells from the garden

We had the 26 Euro Menu - helpings were hearty - my starter salad was enough for two and the main course duck was excellent with not-over-cooked vegetables.
Desserts on the Help Your Self Table looked delicious but we were too full to try any of them.

The excellent full breakfast was only 7 Euros - ham, cheeses, boiled eggs, fresh fruit and fruits salad, seversl different breads and cakes and the piece de resistance - an almond tart to die for.

Total price paid for Dinner bed and breakfast foor two with drinks and coffee 156 euros.

When we left the friendly and very professional team were hard at work preparing for the traditional French Sunday lunch. Many Tables were pre-booked but I wish we could have stayed for it!

Please note prices quoted are as at April 2008 - before the international banking crisis and the fall of the £ against the Euro, The euro was then worth about 0.7p now £1.12p
