In terms of a particular hotel, here is one that is not on the A-1 but is relatively easy to get to it from the A-1, and at the same time, is easy to walk from into the city center (oh, and it has parking, too).

The Jolly Hotel de la Gare ( http://www.nh-hotels.com/nh/en/hotels/italy/bologna/jolly-hotel-bologna-de-la-gare.html?nhagentid=10255&nhsubagentid=102550000001 ) is a business class hotel (i.e., not cheap, but quite respectable) on the north side of the city center near the main train station (which may also interest you).

To get to the Jolly from the A-1 coming from Florence, as you pass to the southwest of Bologna (the A-1 doesn't enter the city), you take the "Tangenziale" (a bypass highway) which runs around the north side of the city in a loop. You will see signs for the airport, since the airport is off the Tangenziale in the same direction as you want to go. Continue around the city going east (the only direction available) until you see the exit for Via Stalingrado, a major city street. Go right (i.e., south) towards the city center. When you pass the railroad tracks (I can't remember but I believe that you pass under a railroad bridge), take a right on Via Angelo Masini (now you're heading west), then take a left on Via dell'Independenza - Piazza 20 Settembre is on your right. These are all major roads and you don't have to go into the city center to get here.

Parking for the hotel is across the street in a garage (extra cost); check in at the hotel to find out the scoop.

Getting to the city center is as easy as walking down the Via dell'Independenza under the arcades that Bologna is famous for; the dead center of town can be reached in 10 minutes - but there's plenty of stuff on the way...

Look at www.viamichelin.com for online street maps.
