Charming and handy

We spent 5 nights at the Chilcott's wonderful 1700's manor house, with its lawn, tea table beneath the tree, pond, garden, and animals. The manor house B&B is a walk up thru broad stairs and corridors into spacious rooms with mod cons.

It's a laid-back place, great for +50's travellers who want to relax between the too-numerous must-see's and must-do's around Bayeux. Our days in Bayeux were the highlights of our 3 1/2 week European trip. Rosemary's charm and hospitality are part of the positive equation. Breakfasts are tasty and more than filling.

The town center (Cathedral) is only about 2 km away, so you can walk if petrol prices scare you. If you drive, it's 4 or 5 minutes to the Place du Quebec where the D-Day tours usually leave from (free parking all day, if you arrive early enough).

If you want to be sent back in time....

I have stayed here twice. I simply cannot recommend staying with Colonel Chilcott and his wife Rosemary, enough. My first stay with them was in 1999, the 55th anniversary of the landings - one week early. I met the most fascinating people over the breakfast table!

My second stay was this past June. I was there for the 60th anniversary. They pulled out all the stops, even had a Victory Party replete with music from that time period and many veterans of the landings.

This manoir is a mecca for history buffs, with regulars making their annual pilgrimage. You must book early in the popular season and indeed most any season now.

Unique Quality: The people you meet, and the stories you hear, will stay with you the rest of your life.
