BW Le Dauphin
Unique Quality: Atmosphere and location is what the place is all about. Converted from an old abbey, it features real ancient stone cladding and wood stairs, but does not lack in modern comforts either.

Le Dauphin
While planning our trip to Normandy, we decided not to make hotel reservations in advance. Once we neared the coast, we stopped at a roadside rest and picked up a hotel guide for the area. We saw a few nice hotels in Caen, so we decided to spend the night there -- in particular, we were interested in the hotel called Le Dauphin.
We arrived and parking was difficult to find. Walking into the hotel we were very surprised to see a Best Western sign hanging in the door. But don't be deceived: this hotel is not your average cookie-cutter American chain hotel. Le Dauphin has all the charm of an old French Inn. Beautiful stone and hardwood adorned the walls. Our room was on the top floor (3rd Floor), so we had dormer-style windows with a wonderful view of the lower city. Since we checked in late, and we were starving, we had dinner at the elegant 4-star restaurant downstairs.
This is a very nice hotel at a good price for the area. The cost back in the year 2000 was 510 Francs (78 Euros). Funny thing was dinner for two ran us 585 Francs!
