Travel Tips for Caen
Le Château de Caen
This complex was built on the ruins of a fortress erected by William the Conqueror in 1060. Enter the grounds at esplanade de la Paix. The gardens are ideal for strolling and, from the ramparts, a panoramic view of Caen unfolds. Within the compound are two museums.
Further Details on La Trinite Church
The transepts of this church are very shallow. In fact the south one was modified to be intimately related to a hospital (still functional, the Hotel Dieu) as an entry for the ill. The hospital extends where a cloister must have once been. There is a crossing tower as is seen from the outside view. The interior of the church has no decoration other than a few plaque-paintings and the tomb of Matilda (our picture is damaged; it is now only a plain black slab because of long-ago mutilations).
If You Caen Go You Really Should
I visited this city/area exclusively to visit the beaches of Utah, Omaha, and others. This is one of the most historically significant places I’ve ever been, and one of the more awe inspiring. From the museums to the guides what you learn here is truly moving.
