I am an Indian and coming to Caen as a research student from May to July ,2010 and need to book a hostel for myself at a reasonable price(now I dont know what's a reasonable price in Caen). Can anyone sincerely help me with suggestions. I will be really obliged. Please reply as soon as possible.
Normally I would suggest the best sites to check for hostels are www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com but neither lists Caen.
I can only find this:

But surely your university (I assume you are working through a university?) will be able to assist with your accommodation search? They are the first people you should contact and the type of hostels listed on the site I've mentioned is not really for long-term stays, just for a few days /a week or so when you arrive.
If you are not linked with a university then I suggest you book a hostel for the first week or so, and look around for a room to rent. This will be much cheaper than a hostel place.
Since you are staying more than a week, maybe you could look for a short term furnished rental like Les Temporis

Mathilda's Abbaye aux Dames (the Women's Abbey) sits on a hill to the east of the Ducal Chateau. Both abbeys were built to demonstrate their piety to the locals and were designed in an unadorned Romanesque style. Today both abbeys are part of government office complexes. The abbey churches remain consecrated and open to the public, while the remaining outbuildings can be seen only on guided tours of the offices.
As I already mentioned at my tips of the Abbaye des Hommes (Men's Abbey), the church of this abbey is called the Saint-Etienne (Saint Stephen). However, this is the NEW Saint-Stephen, as Caen has another magnificent church under the same name. This Saint-Etienne-le-Vieux (or the old Saint Stephen) is a beautiful old building that dates back to the 11th century, when William the Conqueror himself ordered it to be built in his capitol of Normandy. The building as we see it now, is mainly the restored church from the 18th century. In the battle of Caen the building luckely survived, especially as it was used as shelter for many citizens in Caen.
