More about Ibis Caen Centre

Basic and convenient in Caen (Normandy)

by bkathryn about Ibis Caen Centre

Having already stayed at one Ibis, we may have been more prepared for the second one. The Ibis Caen Centre was right in the middle of town - even more convenient to things than the one in Amiens had been. We were able to find the hotel easily, park our car relatively easily (though the parking garage was still small), and find the train station easily. It's not exactly walking distance to the train, though a tram or bus would work.

Beauvais to Caen transport

by lanakia23

I would like go from beauvais airport to Caen (France), but I don't know what is the most cheap means of transport and his duration. You can help me? Thanks!

I have looked on the Beauvais Airport website: http://www.aeroportbeauvais.com/index.php?lang=eng

and on the regional train website for Picardie (Beauvais region):

http://www.ter-sncf.com/picardie

but I haven't found a connection to Caen. It seems you have to go to Paris and take a train from there.

You will need to take the airport bus into then make your way to the Paris St. Lazare station from where the trains to Caen depart.

In theory it is possible to travel by train Beauvais - Abancourt - Rouen - Caen which takes three trains, but the service is so infrequent and slow that the route via Paris as suggested above is the most sensible option.

Travel Tips for Caen

Abbaye aux Hommes: See the Conventual Buildings(1)

by hquittner

The palatial conventual buildings are used for civic purposes (Hotel de Ville ; weddings or conferences). The decor included fine oak panelling, carefully crafted ceilings, wrought-iron banisters (two sets), a fine staircase, 18C paintings, a display of Norman headdresses. We entered through a fine parlor and saw a warming room, refectory, chapter house and others.

Musée de Normandie

by Mikebond

This museum consists of three sections: the first one includes archeological and historic collections, with many prehistoric, Roman and medieval finds; the second one is dedicated to the traditional occupation of the land in Normandie; the last one shows ethnographic collections about Norman everyday life and popular traditions in the 18th and 19th century.
The museum is open from 10 to 12.30 and from 14 to 18; it is closed on Tuesday.
