Robert Reme hostel, Caen

by jojomy2k

Has anybody stayed at the Robert Reme hostel in Caen? I'm hoping to stay in Caen at Easter & and am wondering what the hostel is like. Also does anybody know if it's easy to get to from the Ferry port?

Thanks

There is a shuttle service that is only there for arrivals of the ferries. Otherwise there is a bus service from Ouistreham centre - Caen - Ouistreham everyday run by Bus Verts to and from the Caen railway station with, of course other stops in-between. You'll need to consult the site as there are so many buses and so many times. You're looking for the "Ligne no.1" on www.busverts.fr/_hiver/ and then "Vos horaires".In a box to the right it's indicated "trouvez vos horaires par ligne". Click to get the drop down window and then Ligne 1 "NOT Ferry Service, there's nothing there" and you'll get another drop down window with the Caen in and out timetables.
Worse comes to the worst a taxi costs between 25 - 40euros depending on time of day. Hope all this helps.

Stop at the Ruins of St.Sauveur-le-Vieux

by hquittner

20 years ago while returnng from La-Trinite to St.-Etienne, while on rue St.-Pierre, we were halted by the appearance of a church ruin. We stopped to look at obviously neglected Gothic and Renaissance remains and its old tower. Only later did we learn of its name. It showed some feeble evidence of repairs but was quite photogenic, as you can see.

After the tour, there is more to see. The view of the complex seen from the southeast is a fine vista that should not be missed. It is also on the way to the other church of the same name (Le Vieux St.-Etienne). (See Tip). We did not visit the Council chambers or the "Guard Room" because they were not included for us.
