Go to the stars at Planetarium Ludiver
by Pavlik_NL
Just half an hour drive from Cherbourg in Western direction, in the wide hills near the small village of Tonneville, you can find the planetarium Ludiver. The area of Cotentin peninsula with it's proximity to the sea, is relatively dark and therefore a planetarium here finds a good location. Around the real planetarium, an interesting museum about the planets and the stars is set. The greatest thing is a visit to the magical multimedia surround show during which the stars are projected in a dome shaped building, simulating the running of stars, planets and the constellations.

Above the town, Fort du Roule, the scene of fierce fighting in 1944, houses a museum about the war years.
Theatre
by darkjedi
Constructed at the end of the nineteenth century and protected as an historical monument since 1984, the theatre of Cherbourg is one of the last surviving theatres built in the Italian style.
Admire the beauty of the golden theatre, as it was nicknamed by the Cherbourgeois in 1882. The Cherbourg Theatre was built between 1880 and 1882 on the site of the old corn exchange. The painter Georges Clairin decorated the ceiling. In the lobby, he designed allegorical representations of comedy, drama, music and dance, and, finally, painted two large works "The Sea Wall" and "The Countryside" that decorate the main staircase. Originally designed to seat one thousand one hundred people, the theatre now has, due to current security standards, six hundred seats

The port of Cherbourg is ideally situated for exploring the Cherbourg Peninsular. There are great beaches, coastal paths and some lovely towns to explore. There's also the history of the D day landings in the various museums along the Normandy Coast.
