bus from le havre to honfleur

by cieschell

is there a bus service from le havre to honfleur. We will be taking a train from Paris. Is it possible to go from Paris to LeHavre to Honfleur and back in a day?

Re: bus from le havre to honfleur

hi,
The train I know goes from Paris St-Lazare, with bus correspondance to Honfleur from train stations at Deauville/Trouville; Lisieux; and Pont-L'Évêque -- by Company Les Bus Verts du Calvados. (Trains schedules accommodate bus schedules.)

For Honfleur, you take the train to Deauville/Trouville (2h10m). Exit the station, the bus stop is on the left. Take Ligne Express Bus 20 to Honfleur (30min., 14 k)
Sit on left for best views. Return same thing in reverse. Approx. 53 Euros for train, 5 Euros for bus.

You can do Paris-Deauville/Trouville-Honfleur and back in one day easily. Best to leave early. For travel on a Sunday, enquire in advance about bus schedules.

I've never taken a train to Le Havre. The Bus Verts du Calvados also link Le Havre to Honfleur (22 k) by the Pont de Normandie.

You can find French train times and details in English here:

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

and times, details and fares in French (easy to work out) here:

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train/horaires

Paris St Lazare station > Le Havre takes 2 - 2.5 hours, so it will be a long daytrip if you choose to make it.

The Bus Verts service from le Havre to Honfleur is the same Ligne 20 plus some local services. The service across the Pont de Normandie is infrequent, with few buses on Saturdays and Sundays.

The timetable for Le Havre - Honfleur is here

http://www.busverts.fr/_hiver/base_horaire/hiver09_bis/L520S1.pdf

and the return direction here

http://www.busverts.fr/_hiver/base_horaire/hiver09_bis/L520S2.pdf

The direct trains from Paris (St Lazare station) to le Havre take just over 2hrs, so it would be an early start and fairly long day.

Hope that helps.

Travel Tips for Honfleur

Lavomatique - a laundromat in Honfleur

by rexvaughan

We try to travel light and, besides washing a few small items in hotel sinks, seek some way in the middle of a trip to do some laundry. Honfleur has a very nice, modern (and expensive) Lavomatique. The machines do a very nice job of washing and drying clothes but be prepared to spend some money.

Rates are (in Euros):
Washing - 6kg 3.50, 7kg 3.80 and 16 kg 7.50
Drying - 1.00 per 8 minutes
Detergent - 1.00 per load although you get a packet which will do 2 small loads

Everything is fully automated from a central panel where you put the money and select the machine. It accepts coins as well as 5, 10 and 20 Euro notes. I fed the machine so much I lost track but may have spent about $25 for a medium size load of clothes, but they were nice and clean and dry.

It is located very near the Tourist Info office on the streets Paul Breard, rue de la Chaussee and rue Notre Dame just off the rue de la Republique.

Hordes of Tourists Invade the Town

by ExGuyParis

One Sunday in July, we decided to drive to Honfleur. The trip that should have taken less than two hours took over three, because just about every other Parisian also decided it was a good day to visit Honfleur! At each toll booth on A13, there was a 10 km or so backup. We got off the highway and worked our way via back roads. Finally we reached Honfleur. The huge parking area by the water was almost full.

Still, it was a glorious day, and watching other tourists can be fun. Here, tourists take over rue de la Ville.

RAIN OR SHINE....

...Its always hot and steamy in Naturospace, a lush re-creation of a tropical rainforest full of beautiful butterflies
Their sizes and colors are amazing and they flutter everywhere, and there are cases with pupea in them and you can watch butterflies emerging from them

"Eye Candy"

If you are a sucker for a good view Honfleur is the place for you. The small harbor is surrounded by storybook buildings that are reflected in the fine light off the water. A fairytale merry go round delights the young and rainbows can make an ordinary dinner a once in a lifetime sight.

"Street Market"

Honfleur has a very lively street market that has every imaginable sort of vegetable, plus fresh meats, bread and cheeses. If you are lucky enough to be in this city on a Saturday morning be sure to skip a restaurant lunch and pick up a picnic here to nibble on as you wander the streets window shopping or make your way to the park by the harbor and enjoy the view of the ocean while eating your treasures.

"Art Lovers"

If you love to wander through charming galleries, Honfleur has plenty to choose from plus one very good museum worth an hour or two of your time. Many famous artists have flocked to Honfleur to paint the beautiful landscape and enjoy the fine light.

Living Canvas!

by Fastfreddie

If you'd like to go to a place where every scene is from a painting, this city is the one. From sidewalk cafes to antique shops to cozy bistros, you will think you've stepped right into a surreal canvas in this lovely place.
Complete with a quiet harbor and a glorious all wood church made in the style of the shipbuilder's art.
If we wanted to "vanish" here's where we would end up.
