Unique Quality: The hotel at the entrance to the Mont Saint-Michel has retained the charm and character of the top inns of yesteryear. The cosy comfort of this beautiful historic house is now complemented by modern services, such as direct telephones, the fax, the Internet, television with both French and foreign channels, a minibar and a modern and comfortable bathroom.
There are inns and hotels located within the Mont St. Michel fortress. One I found on the Intenet was the La Mere Poulard.
For more information for lodgings, check the Office de Tourisme is in the Corps de Garde des Bourgeois (the Old Guard Room of the Bourgeois), at the left of the town gates (tel. 02-33-60-14-30). The tourist office is open daily year-round except Christmas and New Year's.
Unique Quality: They tout the cook's famous omelettes cooked over the wood fire.

Le Mere Poulard was excellent. First of all it is on the island which has to be a requirement. To do any hiking you should stay in a hotel on the island. The rooms were nice and the views excellent. We made it a point to get a room that did not face the public parking lot - that may not be in operation now as they are doing the big renovation to the way you access Le Mont St. Michel. The hotel had fabulous meals and fantastic breakfasts. Others have forewarned, the hotel doesn't have an elevator and our rooms were on the third floor. Doing the stairs was good practice for what sightseeing would require.
Unique Quality: The omellettes were truly amazing.
Directions: The hotel is just a couple hundred feet from the gate entrance.
This expensive hotel restaurant is famous for its omelettes. It barely serves any other kind of food. The thing that impressed me was that the chef after preparing my omelette cut it approx at 2/3s length and throw the rest 1/3 at the dustbin. I never understood why.

Yes, we stayed in Logis Hotel- Saint Pierre-
Ph33 2 3360 1403. It was halfway up the main Rue and was reasonably priced. We had a quad family room and were very happy with it. This 1 night was the highlight of my trip last time- we arrived with tourist buses swarming out and within 1 hr had the place to ourselves free to wander around and soak up the atmosphere. We had a fabulous omelette dinner at La Mere Poulard restaurant and really enjoyed having this special place without the hoards of people. Definately stay there 1 night if you can - well worth it.
