Magic, just outside Cherbourg: Tourlaville castle
"Tour la ville ... so: tower or tour the town (-:"
Just West of Cherbourg lies the little place Tourlaville. Here is the castle of Ravalet with splendid gardens surrounding it, that form a shrill contrast to the harbours of Cherbourg. That - of course - can be a welcome change during your visit of this part of Normandy. The castle dates back to the 16th century, though what you see now-a-days is the 18th century model that was built on top of the previous one. Tourlaville village is between a rural place and the outskirts of a larger town. From here one reaches in a minute the open fields and coastline of Cap Levi, as well as the business of the port and shopping streets of Cherbourg.
"Exotic gardens of Tourlaville castle"
The gardens around the castle of Tourlaville hold a spectacular variety on plants and flowers. This is due to the sea climate that Normandy knows, very possible. Temperatures here hardly ever drop below zero degrees Celsius and hardly ever go over 25 degrees Celsius. This offers (sub)tropical plants good life perspective, which is definately visible in the gardens surrounding the castle. Various ponds and other sources water, as well as some romatic items such as Greek columns, temple shaped ruines, statues etc., offer a changing landscape when walking around through the park.
