Just West of Cherbourg lies the little place Tourlaville. Here is the castle of Ravalet with splendid gardens surrounding it, that form a shrill contrast to the harbours of Cherbourg. That - of course - can be a welcome change during your visit of this part of Normandy. The castle dates back to the 16th century, though what you see now-a-days is the 18th century model that was built on top of the previous one. Tourlaville village is between a rural place and the outskirts of a larger town. From here one reaches in a minute the open fields and coastline of Cap Levi, as well as the business of the port and shopping streets of Cherbourg.

The gardens around the castle of Tourlaville hold a spectacular variety on plants and flowers. This is due to the sea climate that Normandy knows, very possible.
