Beaune restaurant recommendations please

by andree_m

My partner and I are travelling to France in September and it has been several years since we visited. Last time we had a great meal at La Grilladine and we have eaten Aux Vignes Rouges on a prior visit. Has anyone eaten at either place recently?

Both places are somewhat "touristy". I recommend you try "Ma Cuisine" in the heart of the city but tucked away in a little passage. A meal and an atmosphere you won't forget with one of the most impressive wine lists in France. The menus are also very affordable. The only problem. Book ahead and book early. The restaurant is miniscule and I think they are only open 4 nights a week. Here is a bit more info: http://www.nanson.ch/restaurants/macuisine.html

Travel Tips for Beaune

Chateauneuf in Burgundy

by Beausoleil

Another interesting chateau in Burgundy is in Chateauneuf southwest of Dijon. Drive north out of Beaune on the D970 and then the D2. It's very hilly and beautiful. You quickly leave wine country and have huge vistas. Next you come to the Canal de Bourgogne and drive along beside it passing several locks. We followed signs for Pont-d'Ouche and then Chateauneuf-en-Auxois. When we got to Chateauneuf, we followed signs through the tiny narrow very hilly streets to parking . . . above the town in a shaded meadow with signs to walking trails. You can hike through the wooded countryside or go down into the town and visit the chateau that is only partly renovated but nevertheless interesting and eat lunch at Au Marronnier Restaurant. (see my Beaune restaurant tips)

The town sits on top of a very high hill and can be spotted miles away. The buildings are all of native stone and incredibly picturesque and during summer the flowers grow from every possible inch of ground. It's lovely.

Tasting wine - Marche aux Vins

by PierreZA

I would say that this is a bit touristy, but well worth the 10 Euro.
The visit starts with a short tour and then you will have the oppurtunity to taste 15 wines. The wines are from all over Burgundy, we had wines from Chablis, Fixin, Vosne-Romanee, Beaune, etc.
The quality of the wines vary, but it is a fun experience and a beautiful setting.
They do close between 12hoo and 14h00

Notre-Dame

by Mikebond

Notre Dame was built in Burgundian Romanesque style in the 12th and 13th centuries, but some parts were added from the 14th to the 16th century and the church was restored on a project by famous architect Viollet-le-Duc (the one who worked at Notre-Dame de Paris) in the 19th century.
The façade has a large porch and there is a square bell tower with a dome on the vault. I don't know why my father left the bell tower out of the photo.
The inside consist of a nave with two aisles, the transept and an ambulatory choir. However, the main attraction are the five tapestries about the Life of the Virgin woven in the second half of the 15th century on designs by Pierre Spicre, located behind the high altar.
