The Hotel-Dieu des Hospices de Beaune is a beautiful building in the heart of Beaune.
It was a charity hospital founded in 1443.
The building is in gothic style and the roof is covered in multi-coloured tiles.
Inside there is a display of the history of medical instruments and an 18th century pharmacy.
The museum is open every day from 9am to 6.30pm
Hotel-Dieu: The Museum's Tapestries Are More Art
by hquittner
Besides the Polyptych, the museum has a number of items in the same room with it and in the preceding Salle St.-Louis. The predominant items are tapestries. They are all are exellent examples. Unfortunately the light in the Polyptych room is not ideal for viewing a 15C mille-fleur tapestry but the Louis room has better light.. In it are seven early 16C Tournai tapestries in a series on the “Prodigal Son” and Old Testament ones of the early 17C from Brussels on Jacob. There are busts and a wooden maquette of the Hotel-Dieu and the room also retains its structural featurees from the 17C when it was converted from a wine-press room to a ward,(the fireplace and altar are still in place).
Perfect Vineyard Village
by cup0joe
We stayed in Dijon, but after visiting this quant village I wish we stayed here. You can get to Beaune by train from Dijon. The town is surrounded by picturesque hills of vineyards.
This is also the location with the painted tiled roof. Hospice de Beaune
