Maison Milliere
Behind the Palais runs the Rue des Forges, site of one of Dijon's oldest dwellings, the Maison Milliere (built in 1483). Its half-timbered facade features in a scene in the movie Cyrano de Bergerac with famous Gerard Depardieu.

Hi there!
Me and a friend are going to have a motorbike-trip through Alsace and plan to go also to Dijon.
Can anyone tell me about a not so expensive hotel/youth hostel or private rooms in Dijon or even near Dijon?
Thanks in advance,
Anja
Hi. Great idea for a trip. For inexpensive accomodations try http://www.france.com and click on the "Hostels" button on the far right side of your screen.
You might also want to check Logis de France at http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/ They are a chain of small family-owned hotels in France. They come in all price ranges and some are specifically for bike riders (although this is bicycles, it serves the same purpose).
Don't forget to rub the little owl on the side of Notre Dame while in Dijon. Facing the cathedral, go down the street to your left. Wait and you'll see others reach up and rub the corner of the building. That is a very worn down (and now varnished) owl. It's good luck and means you'll return. It's also fun.
Thank you, I'll check the websites and think that will help for the whole trip, not only for Dijon.
And of course I'll go to tht owl, that sounds like a funny habit!
Best,
Anja

To get to the wineries you must exit off of the main road. Just take a turn on one of the side roads and Viola! You have just bumped into Veronique, a sweet French woman who will help you taste and select wine.
As we didn't get a chance to go inside the Hotel de Ville, we really can't give that much information! But as with all Hotel de Villes in each town in France, it truly is a place to sit in front of and wonder at the magificent architecture.
St. Michel is a 15C late Flamboyant cathedral-like church. However its west front (built last is Renaissance. The lower level with three portals demarcates the interior as usual, but the strong horizontal decoration of the projecting porch before them and the many busts of the Prophets plus Moses and David emphasize the horizontal. The 4 story lateral towers have windows surrounded by the classical orders and have height limiting decorated dome caps. (In fact all of the towers and other upward projections on the church have varied treatments of their tops to limit their upward thrust. The central portal has a Florentine-style (not Gothic) vivid treatment of the Last Judgement (by Nicolas de Cour, mid-16C). The statue in front, appropriately 16C, replaces an earlier one destroyed during the Revolution. The console of this statue is carved with four fanciful panels (illustrated in anotherTip)
A four day weekend in Switzerland was a great excuse to go for a drive to Dijon. Many friends had told me that Dijon was beautiful and that I would love it. The reality was a little disappointing; maybe my expectations had been built up too much. But I did still enjoy wandering around exploring the centre of town.
