i'm not usually a fan of bed and breakfasts - i've never gotten used to staying at someone's home who wasn't a friend, but if i run into more like this one, i may be forced to change my mind.
the b&b is in the heart of burgundy, in a small town called nuits st. georges. i'd never heard of it, but was happy i found it. a great and easy location to day trip to other burgundy locations with none of the stress of staying in a larger location.
the home has a large walled garden with a very peaceful feeling along with a terrace. many of the rooms overlook the garden and the ones that don't overlook the charming town. the entire place has a peaceful feeling and we were content to relax in the garden. in fact, we ran the risk of getting too comfortable there.
the breakfasts were generous and scheduled around our needs. very considerate given that we often slept in and breakfast was more of a brunch. for a small charge, claude made dinner. it's diffcult to describe the experience, but suffice to say, he's an excellent cook and the meals were a highlight. delicious food, wonderful wine from the region and conversation that left us feeling as if we were at a friend's home versus a stranger.
a highly recommended experience and one i'd be eager to repeat. i recommend without any hesitation and encourage you to consider the location if you're in the area. and the b&b is gay friendly.
the garden was a pleasant addition. full of lounge chairs and a hammock. a nice way to relax and spend a lazy morning.
the meals were remarkable. what a good cook! we arrived very late - just after midnight - yet he had a delicious meal waiting for us. a wonderful welcome.
