MY 2nd GUINGAMP TRAVELOGUE......
" LA TOUR SAINT SAUVEUR...."
These are only the remnants of the ancient tour.
We do know there once was a church in this place but that must have been very long ago.
Walking around the parking lot you can see more remnants but it takes a lot of imagination to see a church there in your mind's eye!!
Enjoy the flowers.....
" BOULBIN GALLIC STELAS...."
Forgotten tombstones , ancient ones, decorating the country side and they seem to be a work of art, don't they?
" l'HôTEL DE VILLE...."
L'Hôtel-de-Ville used to be an ancient Monastery of Augustinians and dates from the 17th Century.
These monks were in charge of the Hospital till 1676.
It was built with old construction material from the Castle of Pierre II.
He elongated the façade.
In the middle of the building the ancient chapel with its abundance of decorations in an Italian style is still there.
In the building there is a large part of the ancient monastery.
It is a bit of a shame that the chapel is used as an art gallery nowadays...
"LA FONTAINE "LA PLOMéE....."
This is just a nice place to sit down on hot days to listen to the water and to feel the drops tickle your skin...
Once there was an aquaduct that was meant to feed this fountain in the Place du Centre.
Only 4 arches are still upright in the little valley of the LUTINS , goblins!
" LA VILLE HAUTE"
Part of the city that was built on a higher plateau, which often in seen in mountainous terrain..
" LE MOULIN FRANçAIS...."
Yet I had to leave this nice city one day and driving back I met with this nice little mill, so different from the Dutch mills (which BTW you can see in my DUTCH PAGE of course)
Here too you will notice that their are many quite narrow "roads" that lead you to the most attractive places, so don't keep to the ASPHALT......
You can always wash your car...
" A LONELY LITTLE TREE, SO SAD...."
I told you about the poor ABBAYE DE BEAUPORT.
I strolled down the garden (kitchengarden and fruittrea garden) which will be restored as soon as possible but.....yes, money......
But this little poor tree was still or must I say "already" there and imagine what it is doing??
It is watching the ATLANTIC!!
Yes, right next to the garden wall a fantastic view of the ATLANTIC will surprise you as it did me!
It must be a brave and strong tree because the storms coming from the Atlantic can be merciless!
" WHY THIS NAME FOR A NICE PLACE??"
LE DERNIER SOU means THE LAST PENNY and why was this hamlet called The last Penny I wonder??
Guess with me, but we shall never now because the funny thing is that there are several villages and hamlets with this same name all over France!!
One day I shall ask and keep you posted!
