Mont-Dol Hotels

La Moriere: B&B

A former manor farm, set in marshland in Mont Dol and run by Margo & Hans who are very friendly. 25km from Mont St-Michel & 25km from St. Malo.

We had booked the family room with en suite bathroom but when we got there the en suite bathroom was out of order so we couldn't have that room. We were given the family room opposite the communal bathroom to make it easy for us in the night with the children etc... However, there was a very "lively" young Italian family staying and they seemed to use the bathroom all through the night and had no problems shouting at one another through the closed bathroom door. It turned out that, because of this noise, we had the worst room possible and made it feel more like a hostel. Sufice to say not much sleep that night and a rather grumpy hubby the following morning who vowed never to return! However, I believe we were just unfortunate.

Breakfast was really nice and all laid out in the garden. Margo was nice and lovely with the children. Breakfast was a laid back, civilised affair.

There were kittens, a couple of dogs and some chickens (but the chickens were well away from the accommodation and they were careful that the dogs were not a pain.

The price was good. They request a deposit (euro cheque) but it was going to cost quite a bit to get the bank to issue a cheque for us in euros so they kindly agreed to accept a cheque in sterling (which can be cashed by them - just takes a long time to clear) & we swapped the cheque for cash on our arrival.

Mont Dol is easy to find but once there we did had a few problems trying to find La Moriere but in fairness I think we came into Mont Dol a different route from their instructions so probably our own fault!

I would recommend this b&b if, like us, you are passing through - I wouldn't really have wanted to stay more than a night there.
