Rennes for 3-4 days for business - ideas of what to see or do?

by Canadian_Traveler

Hi!

I will be in Rennes for 3-4 days for business next week. I would like some suggestions for what to see & do. Though I absolutely love Paris, I will be traveling alone and would prefer to see some of the places near Rennes. I prefer train travel.

Any suggestions?

Rennes is lovely, it es a wonderful ols town. I'd also suggest to visit Saint Malo and and Mont Saint Michel, both at the Channel (it's a bit more than 1hr by car).

Fully agree with the above.
You may also want to try the small town of Vitré: really mediaval. 1/2 hour by train from Rennes (44 km), station right in the center of the town. The castle and the old neighbourhood are right in front of the station. They also have some nice monolythic monuments in the neighbourhood. On the outskirts of town is the castle where Madame de Sévigné used to stay. They also have a nice swimming pool that stays open late.
The Vitré tourist office at http://www.ot-vitre.fr/ has an English version available.

Travel Tips for Rennes

Place du Maréchal Foch

by Mikebond

This square is really off the beaten path: my guidebook doesn't mention it and I could only find out its name after a long search on the web. Actually, no touristic attraction makes it worth visit, but you may have a rest there. You can see there a big cross, a fountain, a beautiful house and, far away, two skyscrapers housing a shopping mall called Les horizons.

"Train Station"

Rennes seems to be a nice city. However I spent only 2 hrs there while waiting for connecting bus to Le Mont St Michel.

I took a walk around the train station, found it was a really modern one.
