hi am learning french here in rennes but can't find much to do in the evenings. any tips on where to go \ what to do here? bars, clubs, live music etc.? just seems quiet and rainy so far...
i'm sorry to hear you find it boring in Rennes ! without the students in town, it certainly isn't as lively as usual. Have u been to the market on Sat ? to the bars on rue St Michel ? to the Champs Libres library (there's a museum, and it's quite interesting to look at books and library patrons in another country).
all the small bars near Place Hoche are nice places to hang out - not the thrill of Parisian bars, of course, but different. And you can take a train to go to the seaside on week-ends.

Carnac is a small town of 4,000 people and is mostly known for its prehistoric megalithic monuments. A tour of the numerous megalithic monuments(alignments, dolmens etc) makes a fascinating excursion.
There is also The Museum of Prehistory in Carnac which covers prehistory from the lower Paleolithic (450 000 BC) to the early Middle Ages. There are lots of theories but no real proof of how these stone monuments ended up in this area.
I was only there a couple of nights, and it was on business, so not much chance to get a real impression.
However, it seemed interesting. It is the administrative centre for Brittany, and I think they'd had a wee riot the week before we were there.
I remember one excellent dinner, but not the name of the restaurant!
I also remember it was hard to get there - flight to Gatwick, then a wee Brit Air turbo prop (which seemed to be minus the turbo) and a brief stop in Deauville.
