We stayed there in early Aug 2007 and enjoyed our stay there, The photos on the website do it justice, however it is about an hours drive from Rennes and the nearest towns and villages to it are pretty much nothing bar an odd bar ar rural cafe. If you want peace and quiet with total relaxation then you won't go wrong with Pen'Roc because there's nothing around it other than corn fields and farms but for us the jewel of Pen'Roc was the absolutely fabulous restaurant in the hotel. Gourmet food delivered to perfection and it costs little or nothing. The staff in the hotel were very polite and helpful. If you are not going to stay in Pen'Roc then you should definitetly consider the restaurant if you are within the area, a massive thumbs up. This hotel is generally not on the VT lists of Kyriad hotels. It is right at the place de la gare, and I had a wonderful experience here. The weekenk rate is very good and the hotel would compete with some four star hotel though it is surpose to be a two star. There is a mini bar, TV, excellent bath and friendly staff.
The location is the strenght of this hotel, and the friendly and efficient staff. You equally have a buffet breakfast at about 7 euros. You cab practically walk to any important places within Rennes without taking a taxi or the metro. This was definitely not the most comfortable hotel ever but it was doable for what we were willing to pay. 30 Euros a night was not bad for this. Rooms are small but they have a bathroom that is obviously an add-on to the room stuffed in a corner. There was a very nice sprial staircase connecting all the floors...come to think of it there was no elevator that I saw. Security wise, a big thumbs up, as there is a code to get in at night. We felt safe, trudging back from the tapas bar in an intoxicated state. The hostel itself it't not spectacular, but what it's nice is the location, just by the St Martin's channel (I think it was Canal Sanit Martin, yes). One of the memories I have from Rennes is sitting on the open kitchen window, that leads directly to the street and has views to the channel, with the afternoon sun and small boats sailing past.
Coming from rainy days, that was a real pleasure. Leave a Comment
