Pen'Roc Hotel: A bit off the beaten track but.....
  • Satisfaction:
  • We stayed there in early Aug 2007 and enjoyed our stay there, The photos on the website do it justice, however it is about an hours drive from Rennes and the nearest towns and villages to it are pretty much nothing bar an odd bar ar rural cafe. If you want peace and quiet with total relaxation then you won't go wrong with Pen'Roc because there's nothing around it other than corn fields and farms but for us the jewel of Pen'Roc was the absolutely fabulous restaurant in the hotel. Gourmet food delivered to perfection and it costs little or nothing. The staff in the hotel were very polite and helpful. If you are not going to stay in Pen'Roc then you should definitetly consider the restaurant if you are within the area, a massive thumbs up.

Kyriad Rennes Centre: Kyriad Rennes Centre
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This hotel is generally not on the VT lists of Kyriad hotels. It is right at the place de la gare, and I had a wonderful experience here. The weekenk rate is very good and the hotel would compete with some four star hotel though it is surpose to be a two star. There is a mini bar, TV, excellent bath and friendly staff.

The location is the strenght of this hotel, and the friendly and efficient staff. You equally have a buffet breakfast at about 7 euros. You cab practically walk to any important places within Rennes without taking a taxi or the metro.

This was definitely not the most comfortable hotel ever but it was doable for what we were willing to pay. 30 Euros a night was not bad for this. Rooms are small but they have a bathroom that is obviously an add-on to the room stuffed in a corner. There was a very nice sprial staircase connecting all the floors...come to think of it there was no elevator that I saw. Security wise, a big thumbs up, as there is a code to get in at night. We felt safe, trudging back from the tapas bar in an intoxicated state.

Mercure Hotel Rennes Centre Pre-Botte: They kicked us out    Check Rates
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We stayed in the city of Rennes at a Mercure Hotel. We had called ahead to reserve the room for three nights. After an enjoyable two-night stay, our third night turned into a nightmare. We returned at 10 p.m. from a long day of visiting St. Malo and found our bags sitting in the lobby. "Why, we asked?". The night clerk became very nervous, and informed us that we didn't have a reservation for the night! Oh yes, we did I informed him, we had made the reservation with the red-headed clerk. Our bags were in shambles with clothes falling out - my son's dirty socks were in my makeup bag - I was *^@#&* to say the least. My son still had a key and raced up to the room - his laptop was missing!!! The night clerk was ready for a nervous breakdown by then as I was resorting our suitcases all over the lobby checking for any other missing articles. Dan came down with his laptop that which had been hidden in the extra blanket bag. We finished repacking our bags before giving back the key. The night clerk was on the phone calling other hotels and found one for twice the price we were paying for a room at the Mercure. I guess he was afraid we would leave without paying and locked the front door. We had him in a sweat as his glasses kept sliding down his nose - actually it was enjoyable watching him sweat. I paid the bill and we left to find another room at 10:30 at night. We didn't have to go far to find a small hotel, but this one was without air conditioning. Some Italians were being evicted with us, glad we weren't there when they returned. I had noted to the night clerk that he had mixed some of their articles with ours.

Just one of our many experiences while traveling in France.

    Great buffet breakfast

    Rennes' youth hostel
  • Satisfaction:
  • The hostel itself it't not spectacular, but what it's nice is the location, just by the St Martin's channel (I think it was Canal Sanit Martin, yes). One of the memories I have from Rennes is sitting on the open kitchen window, that leads directly to the street and has views to the channel, with the afternoon sun and small boats sailing past.
Coming from rainy days, that was a real pleasure.
